چکیده
Water is a natural resource; its availability depends on climatic and geological conditions, it invariably controlled by human activities. Agbado-Ijaye lies within coastal area, where local communities have been facing incessant water shortages, especially during the dry season. This study investigated groundwater-bearing unit(s) using hydrogeophysical techniques in environment. The electrical resistivity technique, involving vertical sounding (VES) two-dimensional (2D) imaging via Wenner array electrode configuration, was used to characterize geoelectric distribution. Twenty VES stations were current electrodes (AB/2 m) spacing expanded from 1–200 m; four 2D traverses having length of 200 m each interelectrode 10 (level 1) 60 6) adopted. Four units delineated, namely: topsoil (15–251 Ωm), clayey (28–100 sand (125–190 Ωm) sandy (205–876 with thicknesses ranging 0.7–1.3 m, 4.1–19.0 2.6–15.6 undefined depth, respectively. sections also detected similar layers, corroborating VES-derived sections. inverted delineated two different aquifers: shallower low-yield aquifer comprising clay/clayey maximum depth about 5.5 m. layer adjudged be continental plain Benin Formation. deeper high-yield 30.4 beach unit that belongs Tertiary Alluvium Dahomey Basin. showed investigation vital exploring, developing, managing groundwater resources.

Groundwater withdrawal in randomly heterogeneous coastal aquifers
We analyze the combined effects of aquifer heterogeneity and pumping operations on seawater intrusion (SWI) in coastal aquifers, a phenomenon which is threatening Mediterranean and worldwide regions. We conceptualize the aquifer as a three-dimensional randomly heterogeneous porous medium, where the spatial distribution of permeability is uncertain. The geological setting of our study is pattern...
متن کاملPlanning groundwater development in coastal aquifers
This study examines an approach for planning groundwater development in coastal aquifers. The seawater intrusion is controlled through a series of barrier extraction wells. The multi-objective management problem is cast as a nonlinear, nonconvex combinatorial model and is solved using a coupled simulation–optimization approach. A density-dependent groundwater flow and transport model, SEAWAT is...
